Born In Black: Covers

Kristyn Sometimes What I like about Alex's covers is the way he takes all these songs that a lot of people know well and probably love, makes them completely different, and somehow instead of being like "WTF?" it's like "I never knew I needed an acoustic guitar cover of VNV, but here we are." Favorite track: Legion.

FoxPuppy People smarter than me have said "Don't do a cover of a song unless you can bring something to it that the original didn't already accomplish." Alex Reed, for as long as I've been listening to his music, has been doing just that every time he chooses a cover, and this collection proves that reinterpretation is one of his many musical skills, track after track after track.

about

For World Goth Day 2023, a little diary of songs that mapped out my formative years, hence: Born in Black

Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy, Rasputina, Sarah McLachlan, Seabound, VNV Nation, Kristin Hersh...

These tracks were chosen by my supporters at Patreon, but in each case, they coincide with my own musical education. The cross-genre versions here range from the faithful (1959) to the wild (Mr. Moonlight). I think they flow nicely as a set. If you like the music, support the original artists. And hey, support my band Seeming at seemingmusic.bandcamp.com
